are you allowing the good stuff in ?
The word blessed בָּרוּך in Hebrew is related to the word pool בריכה or blessing הַבְּרֵכָ֖ה which means a reservoir of water, in which water (blessings) can be collected and then used as needed. In what ways do you contain and collect your blessings? How do you nurture all that serves you positively and what matters most? Working with the body, we can feel and bring awareness to how we relate to and our ability to receive and contain the good stuff in our every day livings. To be honest with y’all I probably struggle with this as much as saying “No” and would love to share with you practical embodiment tool that have helped me with my everyday life. “USE it or LOSE it" people - reposting this article because it's important for y'all to know 🙂
🐒 https://qz.com/quartzy/1121077/to-solve-problems-caused-by-sitting-learn-to-squat/?fbclid=IwAR08Af4cXn0ecgxG7AVoyea74au0nY94-GStdVUgRmMUPwlms1fF2sr67ag Why a ton of the yoga classes I teach focus on natural human purposeful movement , not mainly on the linear shapes of "traditional" yoga (for another post soon). I'm more interested in moving in all planes and in fact this past month we have been exploring and progressing thru different types of ACTIVE squatting in my open classes (schedule below) “Every joint in our body has synovial fluid in it. This is the oil in our body that provides nutrition to the cartilage,” Jam says. “Two things are required to produce that fluid: movement and compression. So if a joint doesn’t go through its full range—if the hips and knees never go past 90 degrees—the body says ‘I’m not being used’ and starts to degenerate and stops the production of synovial fluid.” "A healthy musculoskeletal system doesn’t just make us feel lithe and juicy, it also has implications for our wider health. A 2014 study in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that test subjects who showed difficulty getting up off the floor without support of hands, or an elbow, or leg (what’s called the “sitting-rising test”) resulted in a three-year-shorter life expectancy than subjects who got up with ease. " “A spoonful of sugar makes the trauma recovery go down” @janetheclapp (check out her awesome post)
Once a week I try to make it out to the trails, run or hike - enjoy the view, sounds, and feel all the feels. I’ve been reflecting so much recently on how this has helped with my healing process and makes keeping my sh*t together so much sweeter. After several years geeking out on trauma and well , trying sooo hard to heal , I often found myself in collapse or freeze in certain situations. You see all this understanding of the impact of trauma on the body is that more is not always more - learning more theory, knowledge and bringing more awareness doesn’t automatically mean recovery and moving from survive to thrive. What I have found for myself is this Play. Connection. Pleasure. Nature. Nourishment. Curiosity. Embodied Movement. These have been key essentials to my body coming back to a sense of aliveness. Engaging in these things (including time spent with my daughter & teaching) has also been super effective for coming back to life - a thawing out in the places and spaces where I was numb and dancing between survive and thrive - rather than becoming the most cognitively informed. Because all this acquiring of book knowledge is only as effective as our ability for it to be integrated into our everyday living ❤️ . @barbahar_cafe
“Eema (mom in Hebrew), I’m going to show you a move that will break teeth”
My favorite thing about girl power is that over time it turns into woman power. Before school yesterday morning , Anava wanted to practice the new moves she learned in her self defense class. Just the other day her teacher told me she is proud of Anava for telling her she didn’t want the classroom job that was assigned to her this week and would prefer a different job. I can’t tell you how huge these seemingly small steps are - for Anava and me - struggling with “speaking up” about needs in a group environment and I have seen so much of myself in her as regards to people pleasing and the like - working with the body and watching the process of healing is so powerful ❤️ #proudmama #selfdefense #workingwothbthebody #girlpower #womanpower #boudaries #embodiedyogaprinciples #somatics oooh this is a doozy of a process for me , anyone else ? 💁🏼♀️🙅♀️🤷♀️ Sometimes our ability to say no actually serves our bigger yes. Closing off one door opens the other this is the dance of yes and no. Those No’s can be important anchors for grounding. If you’re all yes all the time what matters most to you is less likely to be gettin’ served. I personally love exploring for myself and helping others in this dance of no and yes - thru Movement , Yoga, Pilates & Embodied Yoga Principles - in order to set meaningful boundaries . What’s your NO to serve your greater YES? (Please comment below) Check out these opportunities (Classes, workshops and private coaching sessions) to join the dance of embracing human together <3 ❤️
This is how we roll.
Rolling seems to be a forgotten form of locomotion. Makes sense - it's slow and inefficient! Once we learned how to get around with our legs we may have forgotten about rolling . But a little practice with this primitive pattern of rolling can be amazing for your movement base as well as for yoga, running, sports and other complex movements. Rolling has some awesome benefits: ⭐️First, you (re)learn authentic spinal stabilization by using your head, neck, and eyes ? to drive your movement. this is a crucial step, after developing proper breathing patterns. . ⭐️Second, while most people have no problem tensing, bracing and gripping their way through life, most of us don't know how to let go . Rolling reveals your ability to relax certain muscles while using others. ⭐️Finally, nothing is more fun than a grown-up rolling on the floor. The underlying cause for many a poor movement issue is a dysfunctional core - The center of your body. You need core stability if you expect to move your arms and legs properly. ?To re-establish a functional core, rolling is the next critical step after making sure you're ✨breathing diaphragmatically✨ How To Roll from Bridge to Child's Pose. ➡️Inhale reach right arm, eyes and head follow movement of right hand pass left shoulder, flip left palm up, place left knee down, bring eighth knee over towards right shoulder , ending in child's pose . ➡️Inhale reach your right arm to the right shoulder , gaze towards your right hand, left arm by left side, left palm up, roll over your left arm , follow your gaze towards your right foot as it lowers to the ground, returning to supine position. Start again with left arm to right side... . .come explore and play with more sustainable and functional movements to enhance your yoga and movement practice: ❤️open classes : https://www.flowjerusalem.com/schedule--location.html ❤️OCT 22 Sustainable Yoga Flow Workshop 1 - Hops, Slides, & Oscillations. https://www.facebook.com/events/1885380984813903/?ti=icl ❤️YACE WORKSHOP FOR YOGA TEACHERSwww.facebook.com/events/2215150358704978/?ti=icl #rollingpatterns #flowjerusalem #yoga #yogaeverdamnday#sustainableyoga #functionalyogaflow #יוגה #יוגהירושלים #יוגהישראל#locomotion #running #crosstrainingrunners Why make friends with your body?
Sure, there are a trillion other ways to spend your time? What makes cultivating a relationship with your body more important than cultivating a relationship with let's say FB, or Instagram ? ;)... Getting in tune with your body and taking care of your physical being I feel may have the most direct influence on your experience of the world. Everything we do: doing our "work", playing with our kids, walking with a friend...you can't do that without a body. You get what I'm saying, in order to improve our subjective experience of our everyday lives, it needs to start with cultivating a healthy relationship with our bodies :) yoga. pilates. movement experiment. explore building a relationship with your body <3 check out my weekly classes and workshops https://www.flowjerusalem.com/ |
